Dreams, personal symbols, and the realm of the unconscious were essential creative sources for Surrealist artists, such as Salvador Dali, Max Ernst, Dorthea Tanning, Louise Bourgeois, and Helen Lundeberg. Surrealism, USA, on view at the National Academy, explores the unique developments of the movement in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles and Dallas -- and the relationship between Americans and European artists in exile here from 1930-1950.
