Our Life in Six Lyrical Poems: George Oppen
Poetry Course
Participants: Michel Braziller & Louise Glück
The course will be taught by Michael Braziller, the Publisher of Persea Books, an independent literary press he co-founded in 1975, and which is devoted almost exclusively to educational and poetry titles. Mr. Braziller and his guest, Louise Gluck, will look closely at the poems of George Oppen, focusing on "Philai Te Kou Philai," "Niece," "Street," "Psalm," "The Forms of Love," and "Boy's Room." The principal emphasis will be on the emotional and psychological life of the poems themselves. In addition, Ms. Gluck will read and discuss one poem of her own which was, in some way, influenced by Oppen. No prior registration or fee is required. To view the poems, please click on the link below. Please bring a printed copy to the class. Copies of the poems will not be provided at the event.
