The Matter of Time
Art Exhibition
Works by John Boone, Katherine Davis, Edward Johnston, Elliott Kaufman, Catherine Rutgers, Linda Stillman, Ellen Wiener
at the Center
All artists struggle with the reality and illusion of time, whether in finding enough of it to do their work, or in capturing it in their art. In the exhibition, The Matter of Time, six artists and one physicist examine temporality through the diverse media of painting, drawing, photography, sculpture and 3-D computer modeling. The works range from images of walking journeys to daily contemplations of sky and water to data-driven and theoretical formulations. As artist and co-curator Olga Ast states, The notion of Time has always mystified and attracted the speculation of human cultures and civilizations. What is its nature? Where does it come from, and where is it going? Can art help in this inquiry?
The exhibition may be viewed by appointment M-F from 11:00AM to 5:00PM. Please call 646-422-0544 or email info@philoctetes.org to make arrangements.
Exhibition co-curated by artist and author Olga Ast and Hallie Cohen, Chair, Art Department, Marymount Manhattan College.
